Festive Countdown and Shopping Finds : Indianroots.com

I promised you a colorful countdown to the festival season on My Dream Canvas and here is the first of many festive themed posts :) Indianroots.com is an NDTV venture which has recently caught my eye. To quote from their website " Indianroots delivers heritage and style like never before, we are a selectively curated marketplace where global Indians can come together to shop, share and fall in love with the best ethnic products our country has to offer "

I miss India terribly during the festive season. Diwali is my absolute favorite time of the year to be in Delhi. I shall unfortunately be missing it by a few weeks this year. I have a trip planned in November and I can hardly wait!

Here's a glimpse into the collection at Indianroots. I have picked out a few items from the store that I believe would be the perfect addition to any festive decor.

Have fun browsing their entire collection. I sure did :)

Design Decor and Disha

I am completely in awe of people who can draw, paint and are good at DIY's. Today I am happy to introduce you to one of my readers Disha. She is also a fellow blogger and blogs at Design Decor and Disha. She is a big DIY enthusiast and loves recycling. She sent me pictures of some of her projects.

Disha painted this beautiful earthen pot for her home. She calls it her
"Pot of Happiness" (I love the name).

Here she has painted a tray using natural dyes. Click here to visit Disha's blog to learn more about her and her artwork!

Let your House Tell Your Story!

I own a few pieces of silver that belonged to my Great Grandfather. For years I stored them away in a china cabinet and almost never used them. They were show pieces as I was scared that something might happen to them. Off late, I have had a change of heart and use them all generously:)

I love creating vignettes where my heirlooms blend with the new and the modern. This tray is a great favorite of mine and I like using it as a centerpiece. The picture does not do justice to the beauty of the tray. The carving is intricate and very rare. I urge you to treasure things that have been passed down generations.

A home needs to be filled with stories, its not just about decorating, but collecting and appreciating what you have! Let your home tell your story...........

I have fallen for the Giardino mugs and cups at Rosanna Inc. They are so pretty!! We are experiencing Fall like weather in my part of the world. Rain, wind, a bit of sunshine........... and there is a hint of gold in the trees! This image has inspired me to go and brew a cup of Chamomile tea :)

Rosanna Bowles, the founder of Rosanna Inc is local to Seattle.  They have a warehouse an hours drive from my house. I am always getting tempted to stop by :)

An Eclectic Home in Australia

I spotted this charming, colorful and eclectic home via The Design Files. Click here to read more about this very talented textile artist and her family living in Fremantle, Australia.

I attended a conference in Perth many years ago and made a day trip to Fremantle from there. I remember it as a very quaint town by the sea! Its funny how suddenly you get reminded of a happy time by just reading a name or seeing a picture :)

Have a great week ahead!

Vignette's For Your Home

Hello there! While My Dream Canvas is a lifestyle blog, many people refer to me as a design blogger. While its all very flattering.....I am not a professional designer:) I have had no formal training in design and cannot rightfully claim that title. However, over the years, I am getting more and more involved in the world of interiors. I believe that design and interiors are two very different things. I am sure the professionals out there can explain that distinction better. For me, interiors have turned into a life long love affair. I appreciate beautifully designed spaces/rooms.  More importantly, I enjoy experimenting with different design and decor elements.  The journey can be more fun than the destination itself :-)

If you are like me, and spend some time browsing online or flipping through magazines, you can spot the latest design trends. While I can appreciate design trends, I am not an avid follower.  Though, it can be gratifying to realize that the design elements that I have used, have become trendy.

I have been meaning to ask my readers this question for a while now. How many of you spot something in a magazine or a blog and then go about creating something similar in your home? I almost never have the time, money, or resources to do that.

However, I do love creating new vignettes in my home. I use a lot of flowers. I feel fresh flowers almost instantly give my room a new look. As for the props, I just use what I have:)  I simply club them differently and move things around constantly. It helps to create vignettes that makes me smile :) Don't be afraid to mix and match. Create colorful hues, and in doing so, have lots of fun.

While changing furniture, pillows, upholstery, curtains etc can be the boldest way to bring in change, sometimes subtle touches can do the trick as well:)

Here are a few images of my latest vignette............

Entertaining in Style

Wow! That's the word that came to my mind when I saw this table layout. Its sophisticated yet simple. It has a look that has me completely inspired. I do like setting a nice table when I have a party. Of course, its never this fancy or pretty but I do try :) I am completely in love with the idea of using corks as a base for the dish......almost like a trivet! Very innovative don't you think? I could easily collect corks in large numbers.........we are all big wine drinkers in my family :)

Here's wishing you a great week ahead. See you around :)

Here is the rest of the layout....

If only my food looked as good as this :)

However, when all else fails..... flowers sure calm me down :) I picked up half a dozen of these pretty sunflowers from Pike Place yesterday!

I hope you are enjoying your Friday? Have a wonderful weekend and keep on smiling :)

A Feature : Rumaancrafts

I recently heard from Widad Mogral, a Bangalore based self taught independent jewelry artist. She designs jewelry using a method called wire wrapping. The wires are woven, twisted and hammered to create unique pieces of jewelry. Widad uses silver and semi precious stones in her pieces. She occasionally also uses brass and copper wires in her designs.
