Sentiments in Decor and A Project

I am a sentimental fool and I am quite happy being one :) I am very zealous and protective when it comes to family and love preserving memories......be it scraps of paper, frayed photographs, heirlooms and so much more. Every trip back to India, I insist on working on some project or the other related to the past! It keeps everyone including my parents on their toes :)

My aim is someday to self publish a coffee table book about our family and gift it to my children.....maybe on their 18th birthday! It is going to require time, a lot of effort and research. I need to get information from a lot of people to make this happen! The book will be filled with pictures, letters and memoirs and my hope is that they will treasure it!

I think along the same lines about my decor. I want our home to be a visual collage of our memories, our life and our roots! The anklets/payals  in the image below belonged to my Grandmother. Displaying these anklets at home make for an unconventional decor accessory and yet, I want to find a place for them somewhere in my house. I don't want them tucked away in a drawer! These anklets might never be used again !! The reason is simple.....they are simply too heavy to be worn unless you are a modern day princess:) I don't know how the ladies managed it in those days!! I wore them at my wedding, so I know just how much they weigh :)

I would love to hear suggestions on how I could incorporate these anklets into my decor at home.  Do please write in your thoughts and ideas! It will be great to hear from you.

For those of you interested in jewelry and history, you should visit Puja Bhargava's "Indian Jewellery Project". This venture aims to source the visual history of Indian jewelry through the personal archives of families. A fascinating initiative in my opinion. To know more, you can join them on Facebook!

Hello From MDC

I am popping in to say a quick Hello! I have had a busy week with a few unexpected things thrown in and as a result I am a wee bit cranky :) I simply cannot wait for the weekend! Since I don't want to bore you to tears with my whining..... I shall put you out of your misery and stop this post right here :) This endless rain is bothering me..... but this image of my home a few days ago with the light shining through is helping me calm down :)

Moroccan Red :)

I did it!!! After a lot of deliberation I have got a red wall and Moroccan red is the name of the paint I have used. It has a nice ring to it :-) I liked the color instantly but have been very nervous about how it would look in my Family room! Thankfully, it has worked out well and I am mighty pleased. I know this is not a big deal for those of you who paint regularly or those of you who experiment with color often. For me it is a giant leap..... so please humor me :) I am extremely conservative in my choice of color and usually stick to neutral shades for the wall. This is completely out of my comfort zone even though it is such a small area. Who know someday I might go all out :)

I took this picture from my phone as I was excited to share it with you :) It was a dull day today so forgive me as the picture has not come out all that well. I shall share more pictures soon!

So what do you think of my Moroccan red wall ??

Dreaming of Spring

At this point its is a dream :) Its frightfully cold in my neck of the woods. The sky is blue, the sun is shining and the mountains are covered with snow. I picked up these flowers this morning and the sight of them makes me feel warm. Yes......I am dreaming of spring today :)

 How are you doing?

Winter Sun, Tea and A Victory

I have had a late start this Monday. Its probably because of "Superbowl". Sunday we had some friends over for a Superbowl party. It was such a thrill to watch the Seahwaks win. Seattle is going crazy celebrating and I can say its the same here at my Casa :)

After a great night, I woke up to a glorious day. The winter sun looked amazing as it filtered through my windows.

I have an afternoon tea ritual everyday before I go pick up my kids. Today, I used my brand new mug from Artnlight. Vineeta Nair of Artnlight creates the most amazing decor/home accessories. I am a big fan. This mug is part of her Queen series and you can find them here! Vineeta's blog is a visual delight and a source of constant inspiration!

I am going to bask in the glory of Seattle's win last night. Go Hawks!! The sunny skies was the icing on the cake and the tea in my shiny new mug :)

Here's wishing you a great week ahead!

Take Me Away...

I have a gazillion things to do before an upcoming trip and am popping in to say a quick " Hello". I shall try and be regular with my blog posts. However, you know how these trips go....sometimes you just can't! I mean that in a good way :)

I am excited......and yet the endless chores are taking over my life! I guess, I shall relax when I am on the flight or when I get there :) Why is it that despite my best efforts at being organised, things get crazy before a trip. What about you? Do you have some tips/tricks up your sleeve to make the last minute mayhem before a trip go away??

Have  a great week ahead! I shall be back sometime or someday but for now take me away.......

Lets Chat Today On My Dream Canvas

Its is getting really cold in my part of the world. Very soon, we shall see a lot less of sunshine. I am savoring it for now, as I know it shall not last long. In January, a few years ago, I recall it being cloudy and rainy for 21 days in a row. That same year we took the children to Hawaii to escape the dreary winter. We landed at night. The next morning when we opened the drapes, my kids could not stop blinking!! They had not seen the sun for so long that they were not used to it :) My younger one actually pointed towards the window and asked me what that was???

Therefore here are a few sunny corners from my home :) Now you can understand my obsession :)

Now back to the world of design and decor! I have a confession to make, I am bored of decorating/ changing the decor in my house. There I said it :) For now, I am content. This is NOT because my home is immaculate but because its comfortable. What I need to work on is not the "beauty" of the house. This is not about the curios, the paintings, the flowers, the candles but my messy drawers and overflowing wardrobes :) Yes, there are corners and corners that are a complete mess, not visible on My Dream Canvas :) However, while it bothers me, I have to be honest, the thought of all that clean up, organizing and sorting is not fun. The decorating part is so much more exciting:)

Do you feel like that too?? Are there others out there just like me?? How do you tackle this problem? I would love some suggestions and for you to share your ideas on the blog today!

So lets start chatting :)

An Exciting November and Ideas For Holiday Entertaining

Wow, November is here!!! This year has gone by in a whizz. Temperatures are falling and the leaves are silently falling around me. Winter beckons.....

This is my backyard just before the rain and wind arrived. I guess its time for change! The backyard has a carpet of leaves but the tree is almost bare! I really enjoyed Fall this year. Winter promises to be fun too! I am off to India in a few weeks. I can hardly wait :)

I shall miss this sight.....

While browsing on the web, I stumbled upon these beautifully illustrated and hand drawn decal plates by Shanna Murray! They are available at West Elm. I am completely in love with them :) They look perfect for some Holiday entertaining, don't you think? The look is playful, rustic and elegant!

Decor Inspired by Nature (Diwali ideas)

Diwali, The Indian Festival of lights is a few days away. Diwali is usually a big celebration in my house. I miss India and my parents home even more this time of the year! However, over the years I have tried to recreate the magic of Diwali here in the States for my children!

I am drawing inspiration from nature for my Diwali decor this year.

I have picked up these beautiful leaves that are strewn all over my backyard. The colors are perfect. The golden hues gives me my color theme for Diwali this year. The leaves act as a perfect backdrop for the shimmering tea lights. A simple and inexpensive way to create a vignette for Diwali. Do you like it? This can be idea for a Thanksgiving tablescape as well!

I promise to share a few other Diwali decor ideas on the blog this week.

What is your most favorite childhood Diwali memory? I have tonnes.... and I shall share them with you soon!

The Beauty and Soul of A Home!

Today something special happened and I have to share it with you. I have been really busy with a lot of stuff the past few days and not feeling a 100 percent! However, this evening as I walked into my home, I noticed it was enveloped in a golden glow. I immediately felt less tired and cranky :)

While I was clicking these pictures it dawned upon me that my home "moves me". I guess because these four walls are my comfort zone. Living here with my Family is what makes it perfect! We build our home over time and with layers. The layers in my home are far from perfect, nothing matches and not everything fits perfectly :) However, beauty does not come from perfection....right? Your home does not have to be perfect in the conventional sense....but you should love it, and make a connection with it. Call me a sentimental fool but my Family, my Friends who live close by and the imperfect layers in my home gives it beauty and a soul!

Simple and Easy Decor Ideas

I am loving the crisp cool autumn days in my neck of the woods. The trees have turned golden. There is one such pretty tree right outside my living room window. I look at it, and it feels like there is a painting framing my window pane :) It is a lovely sight to wake up to. I will be sad when the leaves fall off. This morning I found a branch lying under the tree and brought it indoors. I have stuck it into my pumpkin shaped kettle to add a touch of Fall into my home!!

Sometimes the simplest of things can add a dash of color and warmth to your decor. Look around you you and see what you can find :) Experiment, create, improvise and share your ideas with me!

Vintage Finds!

I am a big fan of antique stores. Stumbling upon an unexpected treasure/ a vintage find excites me :) Many of the things I bring home are not expensive but for me they are special. I found this vintage cruet set a few days ago. I have a another cruet set that belonged to my Great Grandfather. I display it at home but hardly ever use it as its made of silver. I like this one because its pretty and functional at the same time!

What struck me about it this morning is the color of the glass. These amber colored glass bottles bring the autumn hues into my home! I have a beautiful tree that has turned golden outside my window. Are you like me and make subtle changes to your decor as the season changes? I would love to know??

Happy Monday my lovely readers!!
