A Trip To Ikea and a Holiday Weekend

I have been looking for a house plant for my living room for months now. Finally I found it at Ikea for an incredible price. This plant is called the Pachira Aquatica. I am hoping that this beautiful plant stays happy in my home :) I have not had much luck with houseplants! I am keeping my fingers crossed about this one. We are heading towards a holiday weekend here in the States. I am signing off to spend some quality time with family and to enjoy the last few days of summer.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend wherever you are! If any of you out there have some information about this houseplant.... please ...please do share your experience with me!

Verandah Love

I have a thing for Verandahs. I would love to have a house which has a verandah wrapped around it :) A place to spend time with family, entertain friends, watch the sunrise, hear the birds chirping, read the newspaper, admire the sunset, enjoy the pitter-patter of rain, count the stars.....I could go on and on :)

A few of the houses I lived in had verandahs and so did my Grandmothers home. These two images evoke some wonderful memories. I have not been regular with blogging this week, its something that I hope to rectify soon. I have had a crazy few days and I am exhausted. Sometimes its nice to step away and come back rejuvenated.

Keep on smiling and see you around :)

Come Fly With Me To Hawaii

As Summer begins to fade......I cannot help but reminisce about the days gone by. We made a quick trip to Hawaii last month which was absolutely perfect. I have been to Hawaii before but this trip was extremely special :) I had my parents with me!! We spent the most beautiful seven days in Oahu. It really was a dream come true. We deliberated till the last minute as there were some issues that came up before the trip. However I am so glad we stuck to our plan!

A good old fashioned family holiday is my kind of vacation. I am very grateful that my parents could travel with us. Hawaii is a spectacular destination. I love the glitz and glamour of Waikiki, and adore the tranquility and beauty of the North Shore. This trip we spent all our time in Oahu. My two favorite islands in Hawaii are Oahu and Kauai.

I am sharing some images from my vacation.......I could easily spend a lifetime there :)

Keep on smiling and have a great week!

Seasonal Indulgences For My Home

A very Good morning to you!! The weather in my neck of the woods has been picture perfect. As we march towards September, I know that Fall with be upon us soon. I love Summer and Fall here in the Pacific Northwest. There is always something to look forward to. January perhaps is my least favorite month as it rains incessantly and gets pretty cold.

Summer is glorious! The best thing about this time of the year is that the days are really long. I love watching my kids play with their friends. The park right across my home is filled with kids running around. Their laughter and happiness is infectious. My kids come home as the sun sets looking tired and content :) I shall miss this delightful summer routine!

The one other thing that I shall miss the most, is the constant supply of beautiful flowers from the farm nearby. I have to literally force myself not to pick up a few stems every time I drive by it. I go there when I am feeling happy or sad! The past few days I have found the most gorgeous Dahlias waiting for me at the farm! The Dahlias add instant cheer to my home! These flowers are my summer indulgence :) I shall feel very sad when the farm shuts down for the season.

Everyone has a favorite season. What is your favorite seasonal indulgence???

My Room Crush This Week

While I share many images on MDC.......some of them completely steal my heart :) From now on every week I plan to share my "Room Crush" with you.

My room crush this week is this home based in Spain. The living room with it myriad hues and the vintage textiles take my breath away! The rustic chic style really appeals to me! I particularly like the way the coffee table book is displayed. It brings back a lovely memory........of my Grandmother reading the Mahabharata to me. The book was placed in a similar manner on her bed while I sat next to her and she explained the story to me. The book was in Bengali and she would translate it for me. The book had beautiful pictures in it and I would love going through them :) Some childhood memories stay in your mind forever and this is one of the special ones :)

I could spend a lifetime sitting by this window and reading books! The floor cushions are so striking and make a statement. Do drop me a line and let me know if you like these rooms and why? Happy Friday my friends!!

A Home in New South Wales

This country home in the highlands of New South Wales really appeals to me! I love the effortless style, the warmth and the look of every corner of this home! The art on the wall in the first picture are illustrations that were drawn by a school friend of the owner's sister nearly 35 years ago.

I love restorations and when it all comes together like this......its my kind of perfect:)

Every corner of this home has a story to tell....... and it reminds me of my favorite design quote" I don’t see boundaries between styles, such as modern or contemporary. I’ve collected each piece from a different experience or period of my life." —Fashion Designer Carlos Miele

Here's wishing you a beautiful day!

A Few Fun Things On My Kitchen Shelf

Well.... this is technically not my kitchen shelf, but yes all this stuff is very much part of my kitchen. I spend so much of my time in my kitchen that I decided to add some cheer to it. My biscuit/cookie tin collection is growing thanks to my lovely sister in law who lives in the UK. The tins contain my favorite cookies, tea and a few other things. They are such fun :) I recently picked up the sign below at an art fair. Isn't it hilarious:)  My kitchen is filled with little knick-knacks that make me happy :)

So what's your latest obsession?? Mine seems to be cookie tins and fun signs :)

The East Coast Desi and a Gorgeous Sun Room

It is a gorgeous day in my neck of the woods! Today I am pleased to introduce you to " The East Coast Desi". The lady behind this new blog is Sruthi. She is a fellow decor enthusiast and an accountant by profession.

Sruthi's stunning sun room caught my eye recently and I had to share it with you. The earthy tones, the simple yet elegant style, the fresh flowers......I love everything about it! What is even better is knowing more about this room in Sruthi's own words......

This space is  devoted to a whole load of snuggling and cuddling with our six year old son, to put our feet up and watch the fire flies in our backyard at dusk and  when it rains, to cozy up and watch the raindrops trickle down the window accompanied by endless cups of tea"

Need I say more! Here are the beautiful images of Sruthi's little haven....

Her coffee table stores away acts as a treasure chest and stores away extra pillows and throws.

I hope you enjoyed a peek into Sruthi's world as much as I have? She has promised me pictures of her home for a complete house tour on MDC. I look forward to sharing it with you.

The Perfect Outdoor Inspiration : Nirmala's Deck

Summer for us is very short lived here in the Pacific Northwest. To make the most of it we try and spend as much time as we can outdoors. Today, I am happy to share pictures of a beautiful outdoor space. This deck belongs to Nirmala Iyer. She is a reader of MDC and a friend :) I have also featured Nirmala's home tour on my blog and you can click here to visit her lovely home!

The deck is gorgeous to say the least. I like Nirmala's eye for color and detail. She has managed effortlessly to create a space that is both inviting and stylish. Thank you Nirmala for inviting us once again into your home! I love your style and I am sure my readers will too!

Summer Moments at My Dream Canvas

Hello there! August is here and with it comes abundant sunshine. I am pleased as a punch :) This weekend, I indulged in my favorite pastime and took pictures around the house! I moved a cushion here, a plant there and with the light streaming in......I clicked away :)

My parents are visiting from India and  I am in a state of bliss! The endless chit-chats and mom's cooking make for glorious days! The kids have another four weeks to go before school re-opens. They go out to play early evening and come back home when the sun has set. I can hear their squeals of delight as they play with their pals in the park across my house. The biggest event in the community is when the ice-cream makes it rounds! The excitement all around is infectious :)

My mom has bought me a few delightful cookbooks from India. My plan is to try out a few new recipes this week. This weekend I went to an art fair and I shall post those pictures as well as pictures of my Hawaii trip soon!

I hope to see you back here for an action packed week on My Dream Canvas :)

Here's wishing you a beautiful week ahead!

I cannot believe how fast this year is racing by. August has arrived and it promises to be a busy month for me. Summer will soon fade away and Fall will come my way!

Come Fly With me to Bali today! The Villa Bella is a spectacular villa located in a traditional Balinese village a few minutes away from the very happening and touristy town of Seminyak. This is a villa that combines the best of ancient Bali with all the modern luxuries of today!

Bali is absolutely gorgeous, I was there a few years ago and fell in love with this magical island and its warm and friendly people! Sending you some weekend inspiration to make you smile and sigh:)

Have a beautiful weekend!
