Sruthi's Eclectic Home in Virginia

I am delighted to bring you a tour of a lovely home tour just in time for Diwali :) This charming home belongs to Sruthi. I have featured Sruthi's sun room on MDC before and you can read about it here.

I asked Sruthi to describe her home and her style in her own words and here's what she had to say "I am Sruthi, a blogger at The East Coast Desi. I live with my

Husband (Giridhar) and 6 year old son (Pranav) in Virginia. My husband Giridhar and I believe that

our home should reflect our personalities, style sensibilities and our Indian roots. Being away from

home (India) made us realize our love for all things Indian. That set off the basic eclectic theme that we planned to carry out throughout our home . We also treasure all the ancestral pieces that

we have inherited from our family. We like surrounding ourselves with

pieces that have traces of time and a story to tell."

Sruthi's home has a character and attention to detail which I like. My favorite corner of her home is definitely this one......I like how calm, serene and beautiful everything looks!!

"The art above the couch in the picture below, is a collection of hand painted palkis/palanquins that were bought at a craft sale back in Bangalore. They were framed with Fiber glass and carried all the way back here with "Fragile" taped to all sides of the suitcase."

Sruthi sounds like me!! I too have carried a ton of stuff back from India, nervous and anxious that they reach the States intact :)

"The knick-knacks on the coffee table are a blend of antiques that are family heirloom pieces and new pieces that we found on our travels. My prized possession has to be the lady with the lamp that belonged to my great grandmother. I also have copper pan daans, brass beer mugs and brass lamps that are heirloom pieces. I cherish them with my heart and soul. I have to say that I have inherited my style sensibilities from my parents who are avid antique collectors".

A lovely floral arrangement....

"Our basement is the only room that has a western influence. This is our media/entertainment room. We usually entertain a lot of guests here. In the winter with the fire place on, it’s a great place to cozy up. The sun burst mirror was a family project. We did it together and it turned out great".

Another favorite corner of mine from Sruthi's home!!

Thank you Sruthi for sharing your beautiful world with the readers of My Dream Canvas. Please leave your comments for Sruthi below. I am sure she would love to hear from you:)

The East Coast Desi and a Gorgeous Sun Room

It is a gorgeous day in my neck of the woods! Today I am pleased to introduce you to " The East Coast Desi". The lady behind this new blog is Sruthi. She is a fellow decor enthusiast and an accountant by profession.

Sruthi's stunning sun room caught my eye recently and I had to share it with you. The earthy tones, the simple yet elegant style, the fresh flowers......I love everything about it! What is even better is knowing more about this room in Sruthi's own words......

This space is  devoted to a whole load of snuggling and cuddling with our six year old son, to put our feet up and watch the fire flies in our backyard at dusk and  when it rains, to cozy up and watch the raindrops trickle down the window accompanied by endless cups of tea"

Need I say more! Here are the beautiful images of Sruthi's little haven....

Her coffee table stores away acts as a treasure chest and stores away extra pillows and throws.

I hope you enjoyed a peek into Sruthi's world as much as I have? She has promised me pictures of her home for a complete house tour on MDC. I look forward to sharing it with you.

The Perfect Outdoor Inspiration : Nirmala's Deck

Summer for us is very short lived here in the Pacific Northwest. To make the most of it we try and spend as much time as we can outdoors. Today, I am happy to share pictures of a beautiful outdoor space. This deck belongs to Nirmala Iyer. She is a reader of MDC and a friend :) I have also featured Nirmala's home tour on my blog and you can click here to visit her lovely home!

The deck is gorgeous to say the least. I like Nirmala's eye for color and detail. She has managed effortlessly to create a space that is both inviting and stylish. Thank you Nirmala for inviting us once again into your home! I love your style and I am sure my readers will too!

Home Tour : Adity's Indian Home in Dublin

Today I am so excited to bring back the "Home Tours" series on My Dream Canvas. This is the home of Adity Chakravarti. Adity has lived and set up homes in different parts of the world. Her husband is a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service and the home featured here is their residence in Dublin, Ireland. Adity is also an artist, she loves to paint and designs jewelry. Adity has two lovely children and like many of us is a fellow decor enthusiast :)

In Adity's words "Most of you who have chosen your homes, chosen your own furniture and drapes but I have not. People like me never have. Rather, we accompany our husbands or wives to the places they have been posted to and live in designated homes. Then, we pray fervently that the house (often Government of India property) is a decent one and pray more fervently that the furniture and curtains are alright :) Our government gives us furnished houses to live in while we are abroad. This is often a boon but can easily turn into a nightmare in case you land up with a house or furniture you don’t like :) Since the home is the property of the Indian government, every piece of furniture has a ‘life span’. Therefore, you cannot change it just because you don’t like it. Meanwhile, you hide the pieces you don’t like.... cover them with throws or camouflage it with cushions:)"

Adity was thrilled to learn that the residence in Dublin had been painstakingly restored and renovated by their predecessors and was in good condition. The home now has Adity's touch. She has some treasured pieces of furniture and accessories she carries with her on all their postings.

Here's a peek into Adity's beautiful world....

This is an old dowry chest that Adity and her husband bought in Bangladesh. It is absolutely stunning in my opinion. I love how she has displayed the colorful fabrics from Rajasthan in the chest.

One of her favorite pieces in the house- a bronze Vishnu from Tamil Nadu acquired by the Indian government. The art of bronze cast sculptures in India dates back to 2400 BC.

These are her precious divans that were handcrafted in Bangladesh out of two headboards she found lying in a bad state in a village near Dhaka. Adity got the table made to match the divan.

Adity's table setting at home..................

I love the way Adity has brought her own personal style into this impressive home! What do you think? I am sure Adity would love to hear your comments.

Thank you Adity for sharing your beautiful home with the readers of My Dream Canvas. Do visit Adity's blog to view more pictures of her home and see her artwork.
